To exert health effects, a probiotic needs to be alive.
In order to remain alive it has to survive the long journey from the moment of manufacture, packaging and storage to the moment consumption.

Many probiotic strains cannot survive when exposed to oxygen in the air, even for a short period of time. Although LACTOGG®’s probiotic can survive in low oxygen, in order to ensure maximum survival in warm and humid climatic conditions, every capsule is individually isolated in an air-free, light-free, moisture-free, nitrogen-flushed double aluminium foil blisters or sachets.
LACTOGG®’s probiotic powder is packed with inulin or fructooligosaccharide (FOS), a natural vegetable fibre, which acts as a “prebiotic” or “food” for good bacteria to live on.
LACTOGG®’s “one-blister-one-dose” and “one-sachet-one-dose” packaging ensure that the probiotic bacteria are always fresh, alive and uncontaminated at the moment they are consumed.
In contrast, probiotic products which are packed as loose capsules or powder in bottles or mixed with food products, are usually not alive by the time they are consumed because of repeated exposure to oxygen and moisture every time the bottle is opened.
Some probiotic products try to promote survival by placing the bacteria in an oil emulsion. Unfortunately, in hot and humid climates, oil emulsions need to be constantly refrigerated to prevent the oil from turning rancid. The need to prevent any possibility of the oil spoiling is essential since babies and young children are unable to indicate to their parents when the drops have turned foul. Certain oils have also been found to interfere with the successful colonisation of probiotic bacteria.
