In 2008, a group of doctors and scientists attempted to investigate the effect of beneficial germs on the control of blood sugar.
They discovered that women who consumed a probiotic mixture containing GG probiotic had significantly lower sugar levels during pregnancy. The beneficial effect of probiotic supplementation on the blood sugar of the women was still seen up to 1 year after delivery and was present whether the women were diabetic or not.
This landmark study demonstrates for the first time that probiotics can directly improve blood sugar control, no matter whether the person is diabetic or not.
