History

In the 1990s our company saw the need for a probiotic as a safe and effective way of promoting healthy living.  We were looking for a probiotic which was scientifically documented, safe and stable. At that time few understood the importance of bacteria in health.  Even fewer understood what a “probiotic” really was or how to test a microorganism as having probiotic health benefits.

In 2001 FAO/WHO called a meeting of experts to look at all the scientific and clinical studies available on beneficial microorganisms. FAO/WHO set out the guidelines on how to define a probiotic and how to test a microorganism for its health benefits and safety. The guidelines were based mainly on the scientific and clinical studies on a unique probiotic strain called Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (ATCC 53103).

Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (ATCC 53103) was a good bacterium originally isolated from a healthy human being and characterised in 1985 by two scientists in Tufts University in Boston, USA. In honour of their discovers, Professor Sherwood Gorbach and Dr. Barry Goldin, this probiotic bacterium carries the initials of their names — “GG”.

This fascinating “GG” probiotic strain is the most researched and most intensively tested probiotic bacterium, making it the top probiotic strain. It is recognised as the “GOLD STANDARD” probiotic strain.

After studying all the research on the “GG” probiotic strain, our company decided that the “GG” strain was the correct strain to include in our products. In 2003 we began production, marketing and distribution of premier probiotic products containing this unique “GG” probiotic strain.

LACTOGG® was born!

Since then, the business has grown to become a multinational group of companies involved in developing, manufacturing and supply of LACTOGG® probiotic to government hospitals, private medical centres and clinics in Hong Kong and Singapore and Malaysia.

LACTOGG® products are also sold in major pharmacies and healthcare chains such as Watsons, Guardian, UNITY, Caring and Mannings. Our company has obtained government approval to import and market LACTOGG®+ sachets in China.

All products under the LACTOGG® brandname contain the genetically pure Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (ATCC 53103) strain which was originally used by researchers. This fact is imprinted in our product’s seal of authenticity.

Our ingredients are natural, high-quality ingredients and our formulations are based on scientific research and clinical trials.

To maintain the premier status of our products we are constantly advised by consultants, consisting of medical doctors and scientists. We now have our own in-house scientist, trained at the distinguished Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, United Kingdom to establish our own Research & Development department.  We are also setting up a state-of-the-art biotechnology research laboratory in Guangzhou International BioIsland.

With this research centre, LACTOGG® looks forward to transforming research into even more health benefits.
