在二零零零年，壹個醫生團隊首次記載，定期給予患有異位性濕疹的幼兒服用珠珠益生菌長達兩個月，能把濕疹的嚴重性減半。

饮用含有及不含有乳酸桿菌GG的牛奶前及後，異位濕疹嚴重度的評分(SCORAD)。(分數越高，代表濕疹的程度越嚴重)

這指標性的研究報告提供了首件證據，以證明珠珠益生菌這特定的益生菌菌株能控制人類的免疫系統，使腸道以及身體其他部位，如皮膚，得以遠離過敏性炎癥。
隨這項研究後，其他研究人員於各類型的臨床實驗，亦已進壹步確定這效益。當異位性濕疹是由食物過敏癥所引起(如牛奶過敏癥)時，效果就最為顯著。

2015年，世界過敏組織成立了一個以過敏為專題的專家小組，就目前所有科學和醫學研究中使用益生菌預防過敏疾病的證據展開研究及評估。該小組由來自22個過敏中心的25個世界過敏專家組成，這其中也包括來自中國重慶醫科大學兒童醫院［初級幼兒護理系］的專家。他們查驗了使用益生菌預防異位性濕疹的最重要的臨床試驗。在研究分析的30個臨床試驗中，有13個研究使用了力多珠珠的鼠李糖乳桿菌GG (ATCC 53103)菌株。

專家小組的結論是：對於使用益生菌預防濕疹，可能具有淨功效。

世界過敏組織建議如下：

d) 如果尚未出生的寶寶具有高風險患上過敏症，則建議孕期媽媽使用益生菌
e) 如果正在母乳餵養的寶寶具有高風險患上過敏症，則建議哺乳期媽媽使用益生菌
f) 如果嬰兒具有高風險患上過敏症，則建議讓嬰兒使用益生菌。
