它能提高胃部内层治癒来自药物、酒精或传染病的压力。
它亦能抑制幽门螺旋杆菌(导致胃溃疡及癌症的细菌)的增长。
一项临床实验发现，经常服用珠珠益生菌，能保护胃部内层被一种常见的、名为茚甲新的止痛剂，所引起的损害。
香港大学的研究人员已确认，这益生菌菌株能提高治癒溃疡的能力及保护胃部内层避免因酒精所引起的溃疡。
