Nothing spoils a trip more than getting diarrhoea during travels. It has been estimated that half of all travellers experience diarrhoea during their travels. Journeying to a new place or country exposes the traveller to a different environment of germs, which can upset his or her usual balance of good germs. The commonest cause of traveller’s diarrhoea is a pathogen called Enterotoxigenic E. Coli (ETEC). Lactobacillus GG has been documented to reduce the attachment of ETEC onto the intestinal surface. At the same time it limits the inflammation and damage caused by ETEC. Studies have documented that taking GG probiotic before travel and throughout the period of stay in the new place can prevent stomach upsets termed ‘travellers’ diarrhoea. A study performed by doctors in New York’s Albert Einstein College of Medicine found nearly 50% reduction in traveller's diarrhoea when GG probiotic was consumed.
